Efêmera
Tulipa Ruiz
BRAZIL

Brasil is renowned as a garden of female singers due to their beautiful voices, personality, smartness, sensuality. Tulipa caught general attention with the way she clearly pronounce the lyrics of the songs and the way she reveals her musical soul, nude, bold, two precious qualities - sine qua non - for any stage performance that intends to be called a good one. Her concerts are as praised for the repertoire as for her spontaneity under the spots. She ended 2010 as an authentic #1. Best disc of the year and best song (and 10th too!) in local Rolling Stone Magazine. Among other prizes, her song Efêmera is included in the 2011 versions of the most popular videogames in the world, american EA Sports' "Fifa Socer" and japanese Konami's "Pro Evolution Soccer". Tulipa released her debut album, Efêmera, in may, 2010. It assembled 11 songs, 10 compositions of her own (3 with Gustavo Ruiz, 1 with Luiz Chagas). Recorded in YB Music Studios, São Paulo, Efêmera brings a lot of special guests. On vocals you can hear Iara Rennó, Leo Cavalcanti, Juliana Kehl, Zé Pi, Tiê, Tatá Aeroplano, Mariana Aydar e das Negresko Sis (Thalma de Freitas, Céu e Anelis Assumpção); on brass Amílcar Rodrigues, Jaziel Gomes e Anderson Quevedo and finally Kassin on bass, Donatinho on keyboards and Stephane San Juan on drums and percussion. The concerts following Efêmera's release were all sold out, which is unusual for a debut, and well received by the public and critics, collecting excellent reviews - as occurred with the CD itself. Tulipa's band, in the album and stages, are composed by a group of respected musicians, as Duani Martins, Marcio Arantes, Dudu Tsuda, Gustavo Ruiz and Luiz Chagas. Besides the sound, Tulipa's songs and a few tributes worked in a state-of-art by Vitor Paranhos, the crew technician, the show brings visual effects by Ciça Lucchesi e Fred Siedwerdt a.k.a Cinema de Mão (hand's cinema) featuring Tulipa's drawings in animation and real time images, along with Paulo Fávero, the man behind the lightning. The visuals working for the sound. Nowadays, there's a kind of rush in São Paulo, if we talk about the musical scene and arts in general. Effervescence. Production. Tulipa's work is typical from this sharp minded, modern and well informed "paulistana" generation. It's a kind of frenzy that certainly will reach other country, perhaps global, regions with his original, contemporary, brazilian message.
